Basic Information

Overview

The WHO, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, designed and set up DEWS. Its goal is to reduce morbidity and mortality by early detection and response to epidemic-prone diseases. Its objectives are to report weekly disease trends from country-wide sentinel sites, respond to alerts within 24 hours and control outbreaks through measure such as water quality and sanitation interventions, clinical case management and health promotion.
